Experience the Thrill of Piloting a Life-Size Anime Robot

The Excitement of Mecha Technology

What could be more exhilarating than witnessing a full-scale anime robot? How about taking the controls and piloting one yourself? While we may not have reached the pinnacle of this technology just yet, several innovative companies are making strides in creating pilotable robotic mechas. One such company is MOVeLOT, which has developed the AV-X30 Ingram from “Patlabor: The Mobile Police.” We had an opportunity to explore this remarkable creation firsthand.

Discovering MOVeLOT’s Hidden Gem

Located beneath the iconic Tokyo Skytree and surrounded by various mechanical workshops, MOVeLOT’s facility might appear modest at first glance. However, within its walls lies the impressive AV-X30 Ingram that you can actually pilot.

Innovative Control Mechanisms

At first glance, piloting the Ingram seems daunting. Yet, thanks to clever engineering solutions like Wi-Fi sensors integrated into gloves, controlling this giant robot becomes intuitive. This approach diverges from traditional joystick and pedal systems but offers a tactile experience that enhances precision and satisfaction in movement.

Ticket Information for Enthusiasts

Tickets for experiencing piloting sessions on the AV-X30 will be available starting September 15 at 9 PM Japan time (8 AM EDT). The event runs throughout October with three ticket tiers priced at ¥5,000 (approximately $35), ¥2,000 ($14), or ¥1,000 ($7). Each ticket grants different levels of access—from actual piloting experiences to guided tours through their facilities.

For safety considerations, only individuals aged between 12 to 70 years old weighing under 90 kilograms (about 198 pounds) will be permitted to pilot the robot—a necessary precaution given its complexity.

Don’t Miss Out!

The chance to pilot an authentic AC-X30 is truly extraordinary—a must-do experience for any fan of “Patlabor.” If you’re visiting Japan in October or beyond when additional events featuring this incredible machine are planned for next year—make sure not to miss out!
