NEW DELHI: As the highly anticipated two-match Test series between Bangladesh and India draws near, Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has expressed his admiration for captain Rohit Sharma, highlighting his inclusive leadership style. Sarfaraz made his Test debut against England earlier this year, where he showcased impressive skills by accumulating 200 runs at a strike rate of 79.37 across three matches. His standout performance included a remarkable innings of 62 runs off just 66 balls during his first appearance.
Recently called up for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, Sarfaraz is eager to contribute to the team’s success. The first match is set to take place on September 19 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, followed by the second match in Kanpur on September 27. Head coach Gautam Gambhir will be looking to secure a victory in what marks his inaugural assignment in Test cricket.
In an interview with Jio Cinema, Sarfaraz praised Rohit Sharma’s unique approach as a leader, stating that he fosters an environment where players feel valued and respected. “Rohit bhai treats everyone like family; he makes you feel comfortable and acts like an elder brother,” Sarfaraz remarked according to ANI. He further likened Rohit’s team-building skills to those of Aamir Khan’s character in the film Lagaan: “For me, he’s like Aamir Khan from Lagaan—someone who brings people together.”
The Indian Test squad will continue under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy as they prepare for this crucial series. Notably, dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returns to the team following a serious accident in December 2022 that sidelined him from cricket for several months. Additionally, fast bowlers Akash Deep and Yash Dayal have been selected for their first appearances on this stage.
The lineup for India’s first Test includes: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd Siraj, Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah alongside Yash Dayal.
As both teams gear up for what promises to be an exciting contest filled with competitive spirit and high stakes cricketing action starting later this month!
