A Narrow Escape: Sundance Head’s Close Call
Jason “Sundance” Head, the talented vocalist who captured hearts as the winner of The Voice in 2016, recently faced a harrowing incident that could have ended tragically. While he is on the mend, he certainly needs all the positive thoughts and prayers from his fans and supporters.
On Friday evening, news broke via The New York Post that Head had sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Fortunately, medical professionals confirmed that the injury narrowly missed any critical organs.
The alarming event unfolded at Head’s ranch in Texas while he was alone. His wife Misty took to Facebook to share an initial update with concerned followers: “This is Misty – I don’t have much information but please keep Sundance in your prayers,” she wrote. She detailed how paramedics informed her that he had been airlifted due to a gunshot wound but was stabilized for transport.
Misty continued with her message: “We are en route to Tyler now. This is all I know at this moment; please keep him in your thoughts.”
Shortly after her first post, Misty provided further clarification about what transpired, easing some worries among fans and friends alike. “It wasn’t his hunting rifle and no one shot him,” she explained on Facebook later that night. She recounted how Sundance was reaching into his vehicle for his .22 caliber when it accidentally discharged after hitting the Jeep’s exterior just right.
Misty elaborated on the chaotic moments following the incident: “Sundance said it happened so quickly; he could see the bullet coming out.” In a panic after being shot, he instinctively reached for his phone only to find it covered in blood—he then sprinted down his driveway toward a main road seeking help.
“After flagging down ten cars without success,” she shared, “finally someone turned around and called 911.”
What an intense situation!
Sundance gained fame during season 11 of The Voice as part of Blake Shelton’s team where he triumphed over competitors like Billy Gilman and Wé McDonald with powerful renditions of songs by artists such as Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys.
In another update regarding Sundance’s condition post-incident, Misty expressed gratitude towards medical staff while voicing concern over their decision to release him so soon without surgery or prescribed medications for pain or infection prevention: “Since they decided it’s safer not to remove the bullet per trauma doctors’ advice,” she noted about her husband’s discharge from care just hours after being life-flighted.
“It’s astonishing—just seven hours ago we were dealing with such chaos; now he’s heading home,” she concluded while asking everyone for continued prayers for swift healing.
As this story unfolds, many will be watching closely not only for updates on Sundance’s recovery but also reflecting on how quickly life can change—a reminder of both vulnerability and resilience amidst unexpected challenges.
