Transformative Auction: Power Rangers Memorabilia Fetches High Bids

Dallas-based Heritage Auctions recently concluded a remarkable auction featuring memorabilia from the beloved Power Rangers franchise. This event, which wrapped up on Tuesday, showcased nearly 700 items ranging from iconic costumes and weapons to studio miniatures and props linked to crossover series like Saban’s Masked Rider and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The standout item of the auction was the Cosmic Blaster from 2023’s Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, which sold for an impressive $87,500. This blaster is notable for its unique design that merges the individual weapons of the Cosmic Fury team members. It was specifically crafted for the final episodes of this long-running series, marking a significant chapter in its three-decade history. Interestingly, this weapon never appeared in Japan’s original Super Sentai franchise that inspired Power Rangers.

Following closely behind were two other high-value items: a fully transformable filming miniature of Astro Megaship/Astro Megazord from Power Rangers in Space, which fetched $47,500; and Jason David Frank’s original Green Ranger costume worn during his portrayal of Tommy Oliver in the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, selling for $30,000.

The auction generated over $3.3 million overall but also served as a poignant reminder for fans as it coincided with a year devoid of new episodes—a first since its inception 30 years ago. Hasbro, currently holding rights to the franchise, had plans to collaborate with Netflix on a new series; however, reports surfaced in June indicating that those plans have been shelved.

Heritage Auctions initially announced this extensive collection during The National Sports Card Convention held in Cleveland earlier this year. They later promoted it through social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), encouraging fans with their catchy phrase “GO GO bid.”

Joe Maddalena, Executive Vice President at Heritage Auctions described this event as “the largest and most comprehensive collection of Power Rangers memorabilia ever assembled.” He emphasized how special it is to cater to both longtime fans who grew up watching these heroes and newer generations discovering them through recent iterations like Cosmic Fury.

In anticipation leading up to the auction’s conclusion, several promotional videos were shared showcasing various pieces available for bidding. Notably present were former cast members Nakia Burrise (Tanya Sloan/Yellow Ranger) and Catherine Sutherland (Kathrine Hillard/Pink Ranger), who added excitement by visiting Heritage’s studio ahead of time.

On its final day, participants observed a moment of silence honoring Jason David Frank—who tragically passed away two years prior—before proceeding with bids on cherished collectibles associated with his character across multiple seasons until his last appearance in 2018’s Power Ranger Super Ninja Steel.

This unique blend of nostalgia mixed with high-stakes bidding has solidified Heritage Auctions’ position within pop culture memorabilia circles while celebrating an iconic franchise that continues captivating audiences worldwide.
