Mumbai: Acclaimed filmmaker Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated film “Kalki 2898 AD,” featuring stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan, is set to be presented at the Busan International Film Festival. This prestigious event will run from October 2 to October 11.
The screenings for “Kalki 2898 AD” are scheduled for October 8 and 9. Notably, this film was the first Indian production to debut its teaser at the renowned San Diego Comic-Con. It marks the beginning of what is being called the Kalki Cinematic Universe.
Set in a dystopian future of 2898 AD, “Kalki 2898 AD” unfolds in a desolate Kashi. The narrative follows SUM80 as he emerges as a beacon of hope against Supreme Yaskin’s oppressive regime. SUM80 embodies Lord Kalki, who is revered as the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu, challenging Yaskin’s tyrannical rule.
In August, Nag Ashwin shared insights about collaborating with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan on this project. He praised Bachchan’s patience throughout the extensive process involving significant CGI and green screen work.
Prabhas takes on a dual role in this epic tale; he portrays Bhairava—a bounty hunter—and Karna—an ancient warrior allied with the Kauravas—who represents Bhairava’s past life.
Amitabh plays Ashwatthama, an immortal figure who has wandered Earth for nearly six millennia. As Dronacharya’s son and an ally to the Kauravas, he faces eternal damnation after attempting to kill an unborn child named Parikshith.
Kamal Haasan portrays Supreme Yaskin—a totalitarian god-king ruling over a post-apocalyptic world with absolute authority.
The cast also includes Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani alongside notable cameos from industry figures such as S.S. Rajamouli, Ram Gopal Varma, Mrunal Thakur, Vijay Devarakonda, Saswata Chatterjee, Dulquer Salmaan, and Anna Ben.
Financially successful upon release globally; “Kalki 2898 AD” amassed an impressive Rs1,200 crores worldwide while earning over Rs330 crores at Hindi box offices across India alone.
