Hyderabad: Renowned choreographer Jani Master has been apprehended by the Cyberabad police in Telangana while he was in Goa, following allegations of sexual assault against a junior female choreographer. The Special Operation Team (SOT) successfully located the fugitive at a lodge and is set to transport him back to Hyderabad. His first stop will be Narsingi Police Station, where an official complaint from his assistant initiated the case.
Upon his arrival, authorities will document his statement before presenting him to a court in Rangareddy district. Reports indicate that Jani Master had been evading capture since Wednesday, prompting police teams to search various locations for his arrest. The complainant has accused him of sexually assaulting her since she was a minor, leading investigators to invoke pertinent sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Wednesday.
The victim, now 21 years old, claims that Jani first assaulted her in 2019 and alleges multiple incidents thereafter. Initially charged with rape, criminal intimidation, and physical assault based on her testimony, she underwent a medical examination as part of the investigation process.
Investigators have meticulously compiled evidence under the guidance of officials from Bharosa Centre. The victim disclosed that she had refrained from reporting earlier due to threats made by Jani Master. On September 15th, Raidurgam police filed a zero First Information Report (FIR) against him; his real name is Sheik Jani Basha.
This FIR was later transferred to Narsingi Police Station for further investigation. According to the complainant’s account, she met Jani in 2017 and began working as his assistant two years later. She asserts that he sexually assaulted her during their filming projects across various cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
In addition to pursuing legal action through law enforcement channels, the victim has sought assistance from the State Women’s Commission. Chairperson Sharada Nerella expressed commitment towards ensuring justice for her case and indicated plans for advocating within the film industry for establishing a high-level committee dedicated specifically to addressing sexual harassment issues raised by industry professionals.
