Promoting Unity: Insights from Ajmer Dargah’s Spiritual Leader on RSS Chief’s Remarks
In a recent statement, Syed Zainul Abedin Ali Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ajmer Dargah, expressed his support for Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He commended Bhagwat’s call to refrain from igniting new disputes over temples. According to Khan, embracing this perspective could significantly enhance national unity and foster progress within India.
Khan emphasized that Bhagwat’s message is not only timely but essential. He recalled a previous remark made by Bhagwat in 2022 regarding the futility of searching for religious symbols beneath every mosque. “If we take to heart what Mohan Bhagwat has articulated, it will lead us toward unity on a global stage and contribute positively to our nation’s development,” he stated.
On December 20th, during an address advocating for national harmony, Bhagwat cautioned against stirring up divisive issues that breed animosity among communities. While he acknowledged the importance of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as a significant site for Hindu worshippers, he urged restraint in creating new conflicts.
This call for peace comes in light of recent tensions following a survey at Jama Masjid in Sambhal that resulted in tragic violence leading to four fatalities last November. Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding potential disputes over religious sites after a Rajasthan court accepted a petition from Hindu Sena related to Ajmer Sharif Dargah.
During his speech at the inauguration of Hindu Sewa Mahotsav held in Pune on Thursday, Bhagwat reiterated his views on devotion and communal harmony. “The establishment of a Ram temple was necessary; it is indeed an important place for Hindus’ devotion,” he remarked. However, he cautioned against perpetuating daily conflicts fueled by disdain and hostility.
Bhagwat posed an important question: “What can be done about this? We must demonstrate our ability to coexist peacefully.” He highlighted India’s rich cultural diversity by acknowledging various ideologies present among different sects and communities across the nation.
By promoting dialogue rather than discord and focusing on shared values rather than differences, leaders like Syed Zainul Abedin Ali Khan believe that India can set an example globally—showing how diverse groups can live together harmoniously while respecting each other’s beliefs and traditions.
