Indian Consulate in Canada Suspends Consular Camps Amid Security Issues
In light of escalating diplomatic strains, the Indian Consulate in Canada has recently announced the cancellation of multiple consular camps due to pressing security concerns. This decision follows alerts from local security agencies regarding their “ongoing inability to ensure basic security measures” for those organizing these events.
The Indian Consulate General in Toronto issued a statement explaining, “Due to the persistent inability expressed by security agencies to provide essential protection against increased threats, we have regrettably had to cancel additional consular camps. Most of these were not held at places of worship; one was even scheduled at a police facility. We are acutely aware of the challenges faced by nearly 4,000 elderly members within the Greater Toronto Area—both Indian and Canadian citizens—who now find themselves without vital consular services.”

Earlier this month, several planned camps were scrapped after local authorities indicated they could not assure necessary safety protocols. This announcement followed a violent incident that disrupted a previous camp held at the Hindu Sabha Temple near Toronto.
In response to this situation, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal remarked, “Our consulate in Toronto had no choice but to cancel their upcoming weekend camp due to insufficient security assurances from local government officials.”
