In an exciting collaboration that has metal fans buzzing, the Japanese heavy metal idol group Babymetal has teamed up with Indian metal sensation Bloodywood to release their latest single titled “Bekhauf.” Accompanying this energetic track is a vibrant animated music video where the band members transform into heroic avatars reminiscent of anime characters.
The animation for this captivating video was crafted by Goppo Animation, a creative studio located in Mumbai and Kolkata. Fans are particularly thrilled to see their favorite artists brought to life in this animated format. Notably, Warner Bros. had previously announced plans for an original short series featuring Babymetal, making this visual representation even more anticipated. Additionally, GMB Chomichuk illustrated a graphic novel about the group back in 2018 alongside producer Kobametal and Amuse Group USA.
The title “Bekhauf,” which translates to “fearless” in Hindi, reflects Bloodywood’s signature style of blending multiple languages within their lyrics. This time around, Japanese is included as Babymetal contributes their unique sound to the chorus.
Babymetal is renowned for pioneering the “kawaii metal” genre—a fusion of pop aesthetics with heavy metal elements—alongside other groups like Deadlift Lolita and Ladybaby. Formed as part of Sakura Gakuin in 2010, the trio consisting of Su-Metal, YuiMetal, and MoaMetal gained international recognition after appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in 2016 to promote their album Metal Resistance. This album made history by debuting at #39 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 chart—the first time a Japanese act had achieved such success since 1963.
On the other hand, Bloodywood began its journey as a “meme band” back in 2016 with humorous takes on popular Indi-pop songs before evolving into serious musical endeavors starting from 2019 with tracks like “Jee Veerey” and “Endurant.” The band has consistently supported social causes; proceeds from their single “Yaad” were donated to Posh Foundation—an NGO dedicated to aiding homeless animals during their European tour.
After nearly eight years of independent touring and music production that garnered them significant acclaim within niche circles worldwide, Bloodywood officially signed with Fearless Records on October 18th—a move that promises exciting new opportunities ahead.
