The innovative Desktop Mate application, developed by infiniteloop, has introduced its first downloadable content (DLC) featuring the beloved Vocaloid idol, Hatsune Miku. This interactive experience allows users to engage with Miku while they work, study, or play games.
What is Desktop Mate?
Desktop Mate is a unique application designed for PC users that features adorable mascots responding to mouse movements. These characters can traverse between windows and react when interacted with—such as being “petted.” Currently available on Steam as a free-to-play option, the initial download size is approximately 314 MB. While players can enjoy the base version featuring Aiel-tan (the company’s mascot), those looking for an enhanced experience can purchase the Hatsune Miku DLC for $15.
System Requirements and Customization Options
To run Desktop Mate smoothly, users need at least Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5-8250U processor or AMD Ryzen 3 3300U processor, along with a minimum of 8 GB RAM and either Intel UHD Graphics 730 or Radeon VEGA 8 GPU. Additionally, around 500 MB of storage space should be available.
The application offers customization options where users can adjust character size and volume levels while selecting from three different graphics presets. On high settings, it typically consumes about 225 MB of memory; however, this may vary based on individual system specifications.

Launched initially in Japan back in September 2020 through collaboration between Sega and Crypton Future Media alongside Colorful Palette—a subsidiary under Craft Egg—the game saw global release under the title Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! across iOS and Android platforms by December of last year.
