In a significant development this month, ANN reported that the streaming version of the original video anime series Macross Dynamite 7 has omitted certain scenes from two episodes both in Japan and internationally. The removed content features a subplot involving Mylene Flare Jenius, a teenage character who is depicted as being drugged and sexually assaulted.

The cuts have been implemented on subscription-based video-on-demand platforms in Japan and are also absent from international releases on services like Disney+ and Hulu in the United States.

Disney+ began offering Macross Dynamite 7 for streaming in Japan starting July 17. Following this, the series was made available across various countries overseas in August. Hulu joined the fray by adding it to its U.S. catalog on January 13.

As of now, neither Disney+ nor Hulu has provided any official statements regarding their decision to remove these particular scenes from Macross Dynamite 7.

Interestingly, Japanese rental streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime Japan and Bandai Channel have not followed suit; they continue to include the controversial scenes within their versions of Macross Dynamite 7. At present, there has been no communication from these services about potential future edits.

In previous instances concerning content sensitivity within anime adaptations, Namco Bandai Games’ Blu-ray release of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?, launched back in March 2012, saw alterations where certain violent sequences were either edited or blurred out. However, subsequent Blu-ray editions restored these original elements for viewers seeking an unaltered experience.

This ongoing trend highlights an increasing awareness around sensitive content within media consumption today—especially among younger audiences—and raises questions about censorship practices across different platforms globally.
