At the recent London Toy Fair, Ravensburger, a renowned game publisher, unveiled exciting developments for its popular Villainous series in 2025. This beloved collection of board games draws inspiration from classic Disney characters and stories. Among the highlights of their announcement is a new family-friendly game titled Disney Villainous Unstoppable!, an expanded international tournament framework, and additional standalone games that will include characters from the Star Wars universe.
Lysa Penrose, Ravensburger’s Head of New Games Marketing, shared insights into the motivation behind these updates: “We recognize that fans are passionate about Villainous for its immersive gameplay and stunning artwork. However, many have expressed a desire for a more accessible version suitable for families or those with limited time to engage in lengthy strategy sessions.” She emphasized that Disney Villainous Unstoppable! aims to deliver this storytelling experience within a format familiar to traditional game nights.
The cover art for Villainous Unstoppable! showcases four iconic villains—Hades, Maleficent, Scar, and Ursula—each represented within their unique lairs. This visual representation sets the stage for an engaging gaming experience.
In contrast to its predecessor’s asymmetrical gameplay mechanics where each player had distinct rulesets, Unstoppable! introduces a shared board system designed to facilitate quicker play while remaining easy to grasp. The game accommodates 2-4 players who will embody one of four Disney villains as they navigate their individual realms filled with original illustrations. Players will compete against both classic Disney heroes and one another as they strive to execute their nefarious plans by collecting tokens along the way. The release date is anticipated this summer.
Additionally announced was an expansion of global tournaments aimed at fostering community engagement around the game. These events will now span across France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia while continuing existing North American competitions at Gen Con and PAX Unplugged. To further support local gaming communities interested in hosting events centered on this franchise, Ravensburger plans to provide organized play kits called Disney Villainous Night Out.
Lastly, Ravensburger teased upcoming standalone expansions featuring new content including live-action Disney villains (the specific character remains undisclosed) alongside fresh adventures set in the Star Wars galaxy. More information regarding these expansions is expected later this year.
