Jack Draper Shines Brightly to Secure Spot in US Open Quarter-Finals
Jack Draper delivered an outstanding performance, advancing to the quarter-finals of the US Open with a commanding straight-set victory over Tomas Machac.
The British player dominated the match, clinching a 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 win in just one hour and 44 minutes. This marks his first appearance in the last eight of a Grand Slam tournament.
Despite having lost their previous three encounters, Machac started strong but quickly fell behind as Draper showcased his skills on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
As the 25th seed in this prestigious event, Draper is set to face either Alex de Minaur or Jordan Thompson next; both are Australian players competing against each other.
Reflecting on his performance, Draper stated, “I felt I played at a solid level today. He might not have been at his peak form, but I maintained my focus during crucial points. Losing here last year at this stage was tough; it feels great to improve upon that.”
At just 22 years old, Draper has made history by becoming the first British male player to reach the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows since Andy Murray achieved this feat in 2016.
With several top contenders like Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz exiting early from the tournament, Draper’s journey has been impressive so far—he has yet to lose a set throughout this competition and is optimistic about continuing his success.
This match served as a significant statement for Draper during what has been an exceptional year for him. His accomplishments include winning an ATP title in Stuttgart and defeating Wimbledon champion Alcaraz at Queen’s Club earlier this season.
